ARTS BY JOAN GROSS Father
and son artists Art enthusiasts
and connoisseurs will have the opportunity to visit "Art Succession and Artistic
Legacy of Orduyan Family,"a show featuring Belmont artists Galust Orduyan
and son Greg, opening at the Knorr Gallery this month. "My family goes back
through four generations of well-known artists. Although our art differs by style
and media, it is united by a common philosophical approach applied to art creation,"
said Greg. Work of Galust Orduyan is executed in classical mosaic with an
unexpected use of installation miethods and iconic objects symbolic of pop culture.
The viewer will find humor, soft irony and cheerftulness.
| Gregory
Orduyan exhibits the inspiration he has found in his new Bay Area roots in a style
reminiscent of Cezanne, but with his own individual use of color and light. His
paintings are lyrical depictions of seaside cliffs, houses nestled in greenery,
rooftops, boats and wharves. Filled with California sunshine and the misty
aura of Half Moon Bay, Greg's works are stripped of non-essentials, painted with
thick brush strokes illustrating the essence of the subject matter that transcends
the local neighborhood. The show continues until Oct. 5. There is a reception
for the public on Sept. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. Knorr Gallery is at 253 B St., San
Mateo. Hours are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-
4 p.m. For information, call 344-2001. |
